Woy Woy community awards evening

The Rotary Club of Woy Woy held its Vocational and Community Service Awards evening on Tuesday, May 14, with five award recipients.

They were Ms Bridey Drake, Mr Steven and Ms Mary McCumstie, Mr Eric Daniel and Mr Paul Barclaire.

Ms Drake, 23, received the Vocational Award, for successfully structuring and operating an online clothing business.

Her clothing lines are in such demand that she is looking to expand into new premises.

She was also recognised for showing kindness and generosity in purchasing a new car for a friend in need.

Mr and Ms McCumstie were Community Service Award recipients.

Owner-operators of Mitre10 Kincumber, they received their award for a focus on good old-fashioned service with a smile and family values.

During the club's Christmas tree sale, Mr McCumstie offered to pick up trees with his table top truck, which saving the club many return trips with its smaller trailer.

Mr Eric Daniel was also a Community Service Award recipient, for his involvement in the Vietnam Veterans branch at Ettalong.

With a background in the IT industry, he was asked to look over their system and "fix a few things" when he joined.

Years later he is still there, fixing things and volunteering his time with the branch, now as its secretary.

He was recognised for his generous donation of his time, effort and knowledge for the good of the community.

The other community service award recipient was Pearl Beach-born Mr Paul Barclaire, who has spent most of his life in the village.

He was recognised for his kindness and willingness to help people across a broad front: from transport, and fixing things, to taking locals out and exploring the many bush trails around Pearl Beach.
