Awards offered for Pride of Workmanship

The Rotary Club of Brisbane Water has held its first Pride of Workmanship Awards.

Honoured at the awards night held at Ettalong Diggers were physiotherapist from 6S Physio Ms Nicole Wells, owner of Hatters Tea House Ms Bianca Nagy, Lifeline Gosford store manager Ms Tammy Bateman and apprentice chef at Diggers Ettalong Mr Dean Eggins.

Also honoured but unable to attend the night was Mr Adam Berry, manager of the new IGA store in Umina.

All had been nominated by club members, who presented them with their plaques, which will take pride of place in their businesses.

Nominations usually come from workplace managers or the community.

The Pride of Workmanship Program enables managers to help employees achieve the goal of job satisfaction, and publicly recognise them for their efforts.

Rotary Brisbane Water secretary Ms Di Bartok said the club was happy with the calibre of the Pride of Workmanship Awardees at the inaugural event.

"We are excited to honour outstanding workers and businesses in our area and the excitement of the awardees showed it is a wonderful scheme. We shall definitely be doing this every year, like so many Rotary clubs around us."

The citations were:

Ms Nagy: "Hatters often hosts charity events including high teas at cost price and Christmas lunches for the lonely at reduced cost. Bianca also trains and employs young people from disadvantaged backgrounds."

Ms Wells: " Nicole decided to become a physiotherapist because she was always fascinated by the human body's ability to recover from injury. Nicole brings a little of herself, as a kind and caring human being into every session".

Ms Bateman: "Tammy has turned Lifeline's Gosford store into one of the region's best opportunity shops, with an inclusive and supportive work environment, great atmosphere and prices to suit every budget."

Mr Eggins: "Dean first spent time at Ettalong Diggers in 2022 when he completed a week of work experience in the kitchen. He showed such enthusiasm and work ethic that he joined our team on a casual basis while still at school. Since finishing Year 12, Dean has joined our team full time while studying at Ourimbah TAFE."

Mr Berry: "Since opening, IGA Umina staff, who are all local, have greeted customers with a smile and friendly greeting. Adam employs his four daughters, who had to get university degrees and work at other stores for five years before he would employ them. The store has 32 employees, with five having a disability. Community groups have held weekend barbecues with the store providing the barbecue, sausages and bread".
