New manager appointed at PCYC

A parent, gymnastics coach and judge, who has been involved with the Umina PCYC for 10 years has been appointed its new manager.

Mr Judy Tolhurst says she is excited by the opportunity for the PCYC to help and grow with the local community.

"PCYC Umina is an amazing space that many in our community don't know exists and I want to change that.

"I want to see the facility humming with activity - full of local children, their families, and friends."

She said the main building housed a large, state-of-the-art gymnastics facility, a space used by Holistic Health and Movement, a kitchen, meeting room, accessible bathroom, and bathroom with showers.

There are spaces for hire in the main PCYC building and a meeting room that can be used to facilitate small groups for meetings.

The PCYC's reception space for example, which opens onto a compact grassed courtyard, is ideal for small parties and fundraisers, she said.

The Boxing Shed was a separate building measuring 40 metres by 10 metres.

"This is one of the best boxing spaces in the country, consisting of a ring, seven sparring rings plus a cardio area."

As well as gymnastics, boxing, women's fitness and archery, the PCYC is offering an all-abilities Kindergym Class on Mondays in Term 4, and an All-Abilities afternoon recreational class for 5-10 year olds.

Two new Kindergym classes have started on Thursday, from 10am to 10:45am for 2-3 year olds and 11am-11:45 for 3-5 year olds.

The PCYC also provides safe driver courses for learner drivers

"Statistically, the first six months after receiving your provisional license are the most dangerous," said Ms Tolhurst.

" Our course equips young drivers with the tools they need to manage the transition to a full license," Judy explains.

The next Safer Drivers course is being held on September 14.

Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch MP said members of the community of all ages could benefit from this sport, social and recreational space.

"PCYC Umina is where all members of the community can feel right at home, with countless fun, safe, social, sporting, and recreational activities for everyone from babies to seniors.

"Being tucked away right down the end of Osborne Ave in Umina, in the beautiful bush and among the banksias, it is easy to miss.

"I encourage people on the Peninsula to walk, ride or drive down and take a look around."

Anyone interested in finding out more about the PCYC is encouraged to call 4344 7851 or to email uminabeach@pcyc.org.au, or call Ms Tolhurst directly on 0418 491 298 or via email at jtolhurst@pcyc.org.au.
