Year's first red point event for bridge club

The Brisbane Water Bridge Club has held its New Years Cup, the first red-point event of the year, on Monday, January 4.

It was contested in two sections, Open and Novice Under 50MPt, under the direction of George Boettiger.

All players were required to wear face masks.

Winners of the Open Section were Jaan Oitmaa and Sylvia Foster with what was described as "an eye-watering 70.9 per cent".

The best of the novices were John Aldersley and Carolynne Mucharsky.

Open section results were:

1. 268.0 (70.90 per cent) Jaan Oitmaa - Sylvia Foster (2), 0.80 Red points.

2. 219.0 (57.94 pc) Felicity Fane - Heather Brown (6), 0.56 pts.

3. 218.0 (57.67 pc) Jorgen Boettiger - Pam Gowthorp (16), 0.40pts.

4. 215.0 (56.88 pc) Joan Walsh - Julie Teague (15), 0.27 pts.

5. 200.0 (52.91 pc) Carol Anderson - Jenny Buckley (13), 0.20 pts.

6. 198.0 (52.38 pc) Hope Tomlinson - Barry Foster (7), 0.16 pts.

7. 189.0 (50.00 pc) Christine Hadaway - Robin Vaughan (10), 0.13 pts.

8. 180.0 (47.62 pc) David Howells - Sue Eastman (1), 0.11 pts.

9. 179.0 (47.35 pc) Edith Marshall - Hilary Owen (3).

10. 178.0 (47.09 pc) Carol Long - Faith Ross (5).

10. 178.0 (47.09 pc) Lorraine Lindsay - Cathy Russell (9).

12. 174.0 (46.03 pc) David Bowerman - Dasha Brandt (12).
