Educating council staff is needed now more than ever

Educating council staff was accepted as a necessity by the Stroms decades ago.

This is needed with greater urgency now with the community's increased concern for the future as the council's enhanced business-as-usual policy dominates.

Council staff disregard scientists supporting greenhouse gas reduction of 80 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030.

I predict we are about to begin a blame and finger-pointing period at a level never seen before and one that will continue and test human resilience.

The Peninsula News front page (November 14) shows how far behind the council is in its climate change management.

Instead of addressing dune management for the future, the council has carried its development policy to number one priority, passing on all responsibility to future council staff.

Council staff need to move beyond the belief that "the engineering to incorporate trees is very hard".

This is the reason five local residents groups were forced to oppose the head-in-the-carpark mentality of the council.

How many years will it take to change this entrenched attitude?

Will it happen before 2030?

Who do you blame for the lack of action?

Will Member for Robertson Dr Gordon Reid attend the opening of the concrete car park in person?
