Trees group gives evidence to parliamentary inquiry

The Peninsula's Grow Urban Shade Trees group has given evidence at the Parliamentary Inquiry into the Planning system and the impacts of climate change on the environment and communities.

The Parliamentary committee heard also heard from the Peninsula Residents' Association at its hearing at the Central Coast Leagues Club in Gosford.

GUST member Ms Jen Wilder said: "Our lived experience, as residents suffering the consequences of the long-term failings of the planning system to provide adequate shade, is now etched into Hansard.

"Our invitation came after GUST wrote a detailed submission documenting the woefully-inadequate canopy cover on the Peninsula.

"At the Inquiry, GUST was no outlier in its concerns, which were also echoed by the Peninsula Residents Association and Central Coast Council itself.

"The panel is currently travelling to the regions to allow the state government greater insight into issues facing communities.

"The panel congratulated GUST and seemed extremely receptive to the plight for increased urban canopy."
