Ettalong Bowling Club appoints three new directors

Ettalong Memorial Bowling Club has appointed three new directors, following the resignation of long-serving chairman Mr Robert Henderson in January.

The new directors are Mr Geoff O'Hara, Mr Peter Butt and Ms Tracey Burraston.

Mr Henderson decided it was time to retire from the board in January, after more than 20 years of service, and to focus on the future with his children and grandchildren, club chief executive Mr Tim McGavin said.

"The directors and myself have greatly valued Robert's guidance over the time, and we are extremely grateful for Robert's invaluable service of more than 20 years," he said.

Upon his resignation, the board appointed vice-chairman Mr Gary Thomson as chairman and Mr Ken Dixon as vice-chairman until elections are held in October.

The board called for expressions of interest in filling the casual vacancy.

Mr McGavin said the board appointed the three new directors at a special meeting on February 10.

He said the board had the power to appoint up to two additional directors, as well to fill the casual vacancy.

Mr O'Hara was appointed to fill the casual vacancy.

"Geoff brings additional skills and experience to the board in connection with his work in marketing and the Club Industry.

"Geoff's qualifications include being the holder of a Diploma of Management and Graduate Certificate in Marketing.

"He previously held the position of marketing manager of a major branded product sold throughout Australia, New Zealand and East Asia and he has worked in the club industry as a club duty manager and served as a club vice-president and president."

Mr McGavin said Mr Butt's appointment brought extra skills and experience to the board.

"Peter brings his experiences from having run a private company as well as his vast experience in the management of staff and the management of business

operations.

"He is the successful owner and director of Brisbane Water Glass employing 33 persons on the Central Coast and Northern Beaches."

Mr McGavin said the board would benefit from Ms Burraston's "vast experience with numerous consultative groups on the Peninsula".

She would be "a valuable addition to the board when it comes to networking with the community".

He said she held a Bachelor of Community Management, Bachelor of Teaching and Associate Diploma of Social Science.

"She is currently employed by the Department of Education and Training as aboriginal community officer.

"She is also a representative convenor of Woy Woy Peninsula Netball Association."
