Lions suffer narrow defeat to Razorbacks
The Woy Woy Lions suffered a narrow defeat in Round 10 of Central Coast Rugby Union on Saturday, June 19.
The Razorbacks recorded a 29 points to 22 victory over Woy Woy at Ourimbah Rugby Park in what was another tight tussle, according to Rugby Union president Mr Larry Thomson.
"The first half of this match was very evenly fought and there was nothing between the two teams at the halftime break," he said.
"This clash was very tight throughout.
"The Razorbacks went to the early lead and led by 10 points to five midway through the first half.
"Woy Woy came right back onto the scene with two late tries in the first half and went to the halftime break leading by 17 points to 10.
"The match was being played in cold conditions but the rugby was certainly keeping the spectators on the edge of anticipation.
"It was the Razorbacks who took control on the scoreboard early in the second half and it was not long before they had taken the lead in the match and they had raced to a handy 29 points to 17 lead.
"Woy Woy were not to be outdone and a late try to them saw a close race to the finish.
"However, it was the Razorbacks who were able to hang on for the important victory.
"The win sees them remain in second spot on the competition ladder."
Best players for Woy Woy were flanker Jaz Doak-Stride, halfback Zac Doak-Stride, winger Mitieli Tamani and No.8 Phil Shaw.
Tries were scored by Jazper Doak-Stride, Unaloto Tupou, Josh Haskins and Scott Ofahengaue and one conversion to Ratu Nagwaru.
Woy Woy remains second last on the points table with 14 points ahead of Warnervale 4
In Premier 2 competition, the Razorbacks 54 held Woy Woy to nil.
In women's competition, Gosford-Woy Woy 29 defeated the Razorbacks 12.
