Pearl Beach pickleball celebrates its first year

Pearl Beach Tennis and Recreation Club has celebrated its first year of playing pickleball.

"It's been one whole year since we started playing pickleball," said convenor Ms Judy McFarlane.

The club bought a starter kit with net, balls and paddles a year ago, and started by using masking tape to mark out a court in the Memorial Hall.

"Popularity grew quickly, so it wasn't long before we had two courts properly painted on the top tennis court.

"The team is so keen.

"We play when it's cool and drizzly but also when it's baking hot.

"Thankfully our courts are cool and shady in a stunning bush setting.

"It is unusual to play on synthetic grass, but we like that it's much cooler in summer than a hard court and so much softer on the knees.

"True that the ball doesn't bounce quite as high, but that just trains us to be fast and nimble."

Anyone interested can come and watch at the Sunday afternoon social session at 2pm.

The Pearly Pickle Courts can be hired for private use.

For bookings and enquiries, phone Ms Judy McFarlane on 0418 436 225.
