Shopping trolleys removed by divers

Shopping trolleys, car tyres, bicycles, fishing rods, heavy metal, a battery and plenty of beer bottles have been removed from under Woy Woy bridge and in Woy Woy Bay.

Clean4Shore was joined by three divers from Lyndi Leggett's Scuba Gym and four support volunteers on the barge for the morning.

"The first task was the northern foreshore under the Spike Milligan Bridge, a popular fishing spot," said Mr Graham Johnston.

"The visibility was poor as rubbish began to be pulled either into the boat or collected in bags by the divers.

A large shopping trolley, fishing rods and a car tyre were retrieved, with plenty of tangled fishing line.

Phegans Bay public jetty harboured large metal objects and a solar panel, crab nets and more beer bottles.

On the Woy Woy foreshore at Carrera Bay, the public jetty had another two shopping trollies, a bicycle, and many more beer bottles removed.

Assistance at this site was provided by a couple visiting from Nepal, who enjoyed the challenge offered by the team.

Returning to Lions Park, two sunken vessels were found along this foreshore with a third removed earlier in the morning.

A total of 300kg of rubbish was offloaded at Woy Woy Tip with the metal and tyres recycled.
