Terrigal defeats the Lionesses
Terrigal has defeated Southern and Ettalong United 3-0 at Terrigal in Round 10 of Women's Premier League soccer.
In the opening period, Terrigal created multiple opportunities with shots that went over the post or to the keeper.
Terrigal's speed was matched by the Southern Lionesses, including under-16s player Aspen Balshaw who once again filled in to help a depleted SEU team.
Terrigal eventually broke the deadlock after 30 minutes when Nicole Prampromis was dragged down from behind.
Terrigal's free-kick wizard Georgah Shearim riffled home a set piece to give her side the lead.
Southern had a couple of chances in the half but Terrigal's fill-in keeper Rochelle Davis was outstanding with her positional play, as well as her ability to work as an extra player when the ball was coming out of defence.
Terrigal had lapses in defence, and at times looked rusty and frustrated at their lack of ability to finish chances which cost them dearly in their first encounter with Southern.
Southern striker Brooke Hardie made Terrigal work hard in the opening half as neither side was able to add another to the scoreline.
The second half saw Casey Tuddenham come in as keeper for Terrigal.
Terrigal's midfield trio of Georgah, Tanisha Wallace and Milla Melverton linked together and started to push hard.
Southern's Dinna Hutchinson was outstanding in defence with her ability to read the play and hold players up, causing multiple Terrigal attackers to come to a halt.
Another free kick was awarded in a dangerous position for Terrigal, and once again Georgah Shearim slotted the chance over the opposition goalkeeper to double Terrigal's lead.
With that, the game slowed down and Southern started to open Terrigal up through the skill of their middle.
Looking to get back on top, with 15 minutes to go, Terrigal brought on three of their utility players and that changed the momentum back their way.
After this tactical change, Makenna Milton placed a beautiful cross to the flying Gabby Healey who converted for the game's third and final goal.
Match official was Brendan Wirz.
