Umina United women defeat The Entrance

Umina United E-Gals have defeated The Entrance 3-2 in Round 10 of Women's Premier League soccer.

Much like their last fixture, the Entrance found themselves coming back from two goals down but this week the Reddies were unable to snatch victory as the home side Umina fought hard until the end to claim their second win of the year.

Umina started the game stronger, creating a few chances inside the opening 20 minutes while the Entrance only had one goal attempt.

Umina's early pressure paid off at 24 minutes when Tori Sheriff pounced on a clearance, slotting it into the bottom left corner.

Looking for a quick reply, the Reddies' Mia Hansen chased a 50/50 ball, but the Umina keeper dived onto it just before Mia could get her foot on the ball to make a great save.

With 10 minutes left before halftime, Umina scored their second goal when a perfectly-weighted through-ball by Sheriff found Kiara Kelly who expertly finished giving Umina a 2-0 lead at halftime.

The Reddies came out strong in the second half, with their always-dangerous winger Jade Hawes firing a lethal shot into the top right corner to reduce the deficit to one.

However, Umina reinstated their two-goal lead just minutes later through Amber Mangan running onto a goal kick at the halfway line and calmly slotting home another composed finish.

Down but not out, Reddies' goal-scoring machine Ruby Watt scored a header, making for a tense finish with 25 minutes remaining.

Despite the Entrance having the bulk of possession and overall chances late in the contest, Umina were far more clinical and direct throughout the match.

Their keeper Tessa Flick showed great bravery, muting several opportunities and ensuring her side would walk away with all three points.

Match official was Kyle Hockings.
