Hospital staff plant wattle for Naidoc Week
Staff and patients at a local hospital have planted a wattle, "badjigayi", and attended a community day at Wyong to celebrate Naidoc Week.
The wattle was planted by the staff of Brisbane Waters Private Hospital "in commemoration of 50 years of Naidoc, celebrating strength, vision and legacy", said chief executive Mr Stephen Johnston.
"This is a powerful cultural tree which is regarded in spiritual belief as the tree of life, as it is believed to be the first tree in creation, because it gives both medicine and food.
"As this tree grows, we hope that Australia grows to a more just and equitable future."
They also attended a Central Coast Naidoc community day held at Wyong Racecourse.
"This was a day to celebrate strength, vision and legacy and create a powerful day of culture, connection and community," he said.
