Umina fire station to be refurbished
Work is underway on a $1.8 million refurbishment at the Umina Fire Station in Trafalgar Ave, Woy Woy.
Improvements at the station include facilities for the station's 36 firefighters and the introduction of designated protection zones in line with the fire service's Clean Fire Station Program.
The program reduces exposure to potentially contaminated material which can be brought back to stations from fires and emergency scenes.
The work includes the creation of new rest areas, the separation of work and living spaces and improved storage, and new male and female locker rooms.
A new gym is being provided for staff health and wellbeing, as well as new toilet and shower facilities.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch said: "Our local firefighters serve our community every day, putting themselves in harm's way to protect our community.
"Umina's modern and safety-focused upgrades showcase the NSW Government's commitment to putting the wellbeing of local firefighters serving the community front and centre.
"Umina Fire Station was last upgraded in 2001 when it was converted from an indoor sports centre, so the refurbishments are significant."
