Learning the Darkinjung language

Umina Beach Public School has spent Reconciliation Week learning and using the Darkinjung language.

Students designed posters which were displayed throughout the school.

Teachers also received their new staff shirts which were designed by local artist Mr Maurice Goolagong.

"Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians - as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation," said relieving principal Mr Chad Tsakissiris.

"At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and aboriginal and Torres Strait islander peoples."

He said staff and students took part in lessons about reconciliation during the week.
