Probus club celebrates 35 years
The Probus Club of Ettalong held its 35th year anniversary on Wednesday, June 18.
The anniversary was celebrated with a lunch at Harry's Restaurant at Ettalong Bowling Club, the venue for the club's inaugural meeting on June 20, 1990.
The lunch was attended by Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch, who presented a 35-Year Certificate to club president Ms Susanne Green.
"Because of their excellent support, the club has continued to hold its general meetings at Harry's Restaurant at 9:30am on the third Wednesday of the month," said club newsletter editor Mr Phil Third.
"There are currently 113 active members ranging in age from 66 to 93 years with some having been members for 23 years.
"Originally formed as a men's club, the club took the decision to formally accept women as full members in 2013.
"Joining on April 10, 2013, 16 who joined on are still current members of the club and two are non-active members.
"The membership is active with regular group outings each month for lunches, morning teas, walking, theatre, sunset sips plus trips to many parts of the state ranging from day outings to a six-day annual trip.
"There have been many special occasions over the years including the celebration of past president Mr Eric Tweedale's 100th birthday in May 2021.
"On his passing in 2023, Mr Tweedale was the oldest living Australian rugby union Wallaby, aged 102.
"Past president and secretary Mr Ken Lummis was recognised for 50 years of service to the community with an award in March 2023."
