Tribute paid to whale rescuers
Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch has paid tribute to crews who disentangled a whale near Lion Island on Monday, June 23.
The crews from the Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans (ORRCA) and the National Parks and Wildlife Service worked to free a whale whale tangled in a net.
"That rescue is ahead of this weekend's whale census-organised thanks to ORRCA-on the east coast of Australia," Ms Tesch said in a Community Recognition Statement in State Parliament.
"The citizen science event encourages the public to observe and record whale activity along the New South Wales coastline, contributing to marine conservation efforts.
"The census has been running for a number of years, with over 5000 whales spotted in 2023, which was a really calm year."
