College team recycles 28,400 containers

Team Nine at Umina campus of Brisbane Water Secondary College has collected more than 28,400 recyclable containers as part of its recycling program.

"We've collected over 28,400 containers, a total of 310kg of waste," said principal Ms Kerrie Thomas.

"This recycling effort alone has helped save 7500 litres of water, reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 782 kg, and conserved 2.7 megawatts of energy."

The team also collects paper and cardboard waste, and fills nine 360-litre recycle bins.

"It takes 70 per cent less energy and water to recycle paper than to create new paper from trees."
