Grant to plant wildlife corridor

The Grow Urban Shade Trees group has been awarded a grant of $3230 to plant a wildlife corridor in the Paul St Park using Umina Coastal Sandplain Woodland species.

"Umina Coastal Sandplain Woodland was originally the dominant vegetation across the Peninsula but has since been extensively cleared for urban development," said group member Ms Jen Wilder.

Listed as an endangered ecological community, the rare bushland was a group of plants and animals unique to the Peninsula, she said.

The grant came from the Central Coast Council's Protection of the Environment Trust after an application by the Peninsula Environment Group.
