May rainfall is just 5.9mm so far

The rainfall on the Peninsula for the first two weeks of May to date is just 5.9mm.

This was recorded on the one day - Monday, May 8 - and is well below the month's average of 77mm.

Despite this average and a median of 73mm, the month's totals vary widely, according to figures recorded by Mr Jim Morrison of Umina.

Over the past 18 years, a total of more than 100mm was recorded in six years, while in another six years less than 40mm was recorded for the month.

The highest total for May was 178.3mm in 2009 and the least being 5.0mm in 2019.

However, even the highest figure for May, together with October, is less than the highest for the other months and less than the March average of 181mm.
