Umina Bowling Club holds Digger's Day indoors
Despite the torrential rain, the Umina Bowling Club's Digger's Day event held on Sunday, April 27, was "very special", according to club secretary Mr Peter Springett.
With 80 people originally registered for the event and despite the 50mm of rain overnight, 75 members and guests attended.
The day consisted of a Digger's Day service, which had been planned to be held on green two.
Members and guests were lined up ready for the service and wreath laying, when the rain came down once more.
"We were all forced inside again," said Mr Springett.
"Colin Mew and Terry Forbes set up the sound system again, this time in the Club house.
"Members lined either side of the auditorium and Colin conducted the service.
"Wreaths were laid by Brian Butterworth on behalf of the Air Force, Kel Clarke on behalf of the Navy, Ray Ransome on behalf of the Army and women's bowling club president Pat Neal, on behalf of all women who served during the conflicts.
"Once we had reflected on the importance of this very special occasion and those that made the ultimate sacrifice so that our families could enjoy such a sensational country, we all had an enjoyable ham and salad roll and some drinks to commemorate the occasion.
"Unfortunately, as we had so much rain overnight and again during the day, bowls was called off and the greens were closed."
