New theatre production starts next week

A play featuring characters with names from Chekhov plays will be staged by the Woy Woy Little Theatre group from Friday, July 25, with 10 performances over three weekends.

With slapstick and farce, "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" is promoted as having "recurrent references to Checkhov, Maggie Smith and TV shows of the past that will delight your theatre wisdom", according to Little Theatre box office manager Mr Graham Vale.

He said that playwright Christopher Durang was known for his outrageous comedies that, underneath the absurdity, had profound searches for optimism and connection with others.

"The story told by the endearingly eccentric characters in this play show us why Durang is a member of the American Theater Hall of Fame," he said.

The play has a cast which includes Andy Kabanoff, Darienne Knight, Yvonne Berry-Porter, Chris Cherry, Alicia Medbury and Jake Cain-Roser and is directed by Terry Collins.
