Umina library to live stream authors' conversations

Umina Beach Library will live stream five conversations with authors at the Sydney Writers' Festival this Thursday and Friday, May 22 and 23.

The authors will be Markus Zusak, Gina Chick and David Nicholls on Thursday and the Moriarty sisters and Helen Garner

The authors will not be present in person but streamed and screened at Umina library.

Booking is required for all sessions.

Author Markus Zusak will be live streamed from 10am to 11am on Thursday, May 22, in conversation with Richard Glover.

Renowned for his bestseller The Book Thief, Zusak will discuss his turn to non-fiction in his new book, Three Wild Dogs and the Truth.

When the Zusaks decided to bring three big pound dogs into their home, they weren't expecting the chaos that would ensue.

Markus will reflect on the 20th anniversary of The Book Thief and discusses his new book's emphasis on our human need for connection.

From 12pm to 1pm the same day, author Gina Chick will relate evocative stories of love and loss in conversation with Rosemarie Milsom.

In her memoir, We Are the Stars: A Misfit's Story of Love, Connection and the Glorious Power of Letting Go, Gina traces her connection to nature, from her unconventional childhood through to her time in the wilderness, where she found solace and wisdom.

Experience the wonder as Gina shines her literary lineage through her memoir.

The conversation with author David Nicholls will be streamed from 2pm to 3pm on Thursday.

Known for his love stories, including Us and One Day, which has sold five million copies and was adapted into a Netflix series, David Nicholls will be in conversation with Jennifer Byrne.

His latest, You Are Here, mixes first encounters and second chances for its midlife protagonists.

Marnie feels life is passing her by.

Michael burrows into himself after his wife's departure.

Both find romantic redemption in the English countryside amid pithy observations and pop culture references.

David may help you find your way on the winding road through life's most encompassing emotion, love.

From 10am to 11am on Friday, May 23, the Moriarty sisters will reflect on their career beginnings, including how they used to earn pocket money for writing stories, their different publishing paths and their many successes over the years.

The Moriarty sisters, Jaclyn (the Kingdom and Empires series), Liane (Here One Moment, Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers) and Nicola (Every Last Suspect and The Fifth Letter) have decades of writing experience between them.

Hosted by writer and broadcaster Sarah Macdonald, they will talk about their achievements including international bestsellers, film and television adaptations and prestigious awards.

From 12pm to 1pm on Friday, writer Helen Garner will turn her curiosity to "the greatest game", Aussie rules football, in honour of her grandson with her new book 'The Season'.

Helen will be in conversation David Leser reflecting on football and the cycles of life>

Her first full length book in a decade, The Season combines her customary warmth and talent for measured detail to produce a loving and humorous portrayal of an Australian tradition.

Bookings for each session is essential, and may be made at the library or by phone on 4304 7333.
