Mother's Day is not always easy, says principal

Umina Beach Public School principal Ms Karen Wardlaw has recognised that Mother's Day is not always easy for all students.

"While Mother's Day is a wonderful celebration for many, we understand that for some students, this day may bring mixed emotions," she said.

"Whether due to distance, loss, or family circumstances, not every student experiences Mother's Day in the same way.

"In light of this, our school is committed to providing extra care and support to students who may find this time challenging.

"To ensure all students feel supported, our staff are offering additional care this week.

"This includes providing safe spaces for students who need them, offering alternative activities for those who may find Mother's Day activities difficult, and ensuring that no student is left without a supportive adult during school and community events, including our P/C's Mother's Day stall.

"We are here to listen, understand, and provide care and comfort where needed."

She offered parents, carers and children needing support to contact the school via a link to our Additional Support form.

"Together, we can ensure that all our students receive the care and support they need.

"Considering the diverse needs of our students and families, we're planning our Mother's day classroom visits during morning play time, so that our students who may find this occasion difficult (and children whose mums who can't make join us for this visit) can enjoy some fun play outside together."

Ms Wardlaw said: "At Umina Beach Public School, Mother's Day is an important time to honour the important women in our lives (and those amazing people who have stepped into the role of mother) across our community.

"We recognise and celebrate the diverse family settings across our community and the special and unique ways in which love and care are expressed.

"We extend our deepest gratitude to all mothers and caregivers for the love and care they provide."
