Teachers attend workshops on 'gifted education'
Teachers and staff at Ettalong Public School have attended three workshops to develop their understanding of "high potential, gifted education".
The school has a policy on the topic, according to assistant principals Ms Janelle Chapman and Ms Renee Robertson.
"All students, regardless of background or personal circumstances, require access to learning programs that meet their learning needs and support to aspire to, and achieve, personal excellence," they said.
"Our commitment to high expectations for all students includes high potential and gifted students.
"Achieving excellence for high potential and gifted students is underpinned by effective school environments including quality teaching, learning and leadership.
"Potential exists along a continuum, where differing degrees of potential require differing approaches and levels of adjustment and intervention.
"Through our student register, we identified students in at least one of the four domains and our Enrichment Groups go across all grades including our Support Unit.
"This term students have been selected for either multi-step problem solving, writing and/or maths.
"Enrichment Groups have commenced this week.
"Parents were notified if their child was attending one of those groups."
