Food ministry founders receive Rotary award

Founders of Mercy and Grace Ministries Mr and Ms Brett and Anna Newcombe have received a Pride of Workmanship Award from Rotary Brisbane Water, recognising their exceptional service in food distribution during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Club past president Mr Mitchell Gordon said: "Mercy and Grace Ministries was created In response to the growing food insecurity caused by pandemic-related economic hardships with a clear mission to combat hunger while building community connections.

"The Newcombes successfully coordinated volunteers and secured food donations from local businesses, becoming an essential resource for vulnerable families.

"Brett and Anna's commitment to serving others perfectly embodies the Rotary principle of service above self," Mr Gordon.

"Their unwavering dedication has not only provided meals to countless families but has also motivated others to contribute to our community's wellbeing.

"The ministry has evolved since its founding, distributing thousands of meals while expanding to offer educational opportunities and temporary accommodation for people experiencing homelessness.

"Their efforts have generated recognition both for their significant impact and their innovative community engagement approach through strategic partnerships and volunteer opportunities.

"We feel honoured to receive this award," said Ms Newcombe.

"It represents the collective effort of our dedicated team and the incredible generosity of our community."

Mr Gordon said the "grassroots initiative highlights the vital role of community-based efforts in times of crises, exemplifying how compassion and collaboration can offer hope to those in need".
